*Obituary

Gladys An was born on May 18, 1928 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. She went to her heavenly home on January 6, 2015. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and Suzanne Galbreath of Purdon, Dickie and Prissy Galbreath of Grapevine; three granddaughters, a grandson and two great granddaughters. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lloyd. Her life was full of good times, as well as, a few hard ones. She was fully engaged in the art of living life and making the most of every situation. Gladys An wore many hats and gave herself to doing them all to the very best of her ability. She was first and foremost a care giver, having provided care for her grandmother, her grandmother’s son’s, her parents and step mother, her husband’s parents and finally her husband, Lloyd. She also volunteered at Doctor’s Hospital for 1,200 hours. An’s attendance at Hockaday Junior College with an associate degree in business administration, as well as, an associate in music degree from Burleson College, equipped her for a professional life. She served as a substitute teacher for Walnut Hill United Methodist Church School, a Marketing Research Surveyor and as Building Secretary at the Walnut Hill School in the DISD. For her exemplary service to the children and the community, she received the honor of being named a Life Member of the PTA by the Texas Congress of the Parent Teacher Association. As a believer in Jesus, An expressed her ministry primarily through the United Methodist Church. She was baptized at six months of age and joined the UMC in Greenville, Texas at age 12. She served in the Cradle Roll at age eight, playing the piano for the youth group and the youth Sunday school class, president of Methodist Youth Fellowship and sang in the choir. An taught Sunday School, was superintendent of the Children’s department, directed Vacation Bible School, as well as a variety of other responsibilities. She also served on the Board of Trustees of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. For her dedicated service, she became a Life Member of the United Methodist Women. An was an amazing story teller, who could make people and events from the past come alive with credibility and humor. Plain spoken at times, she always did so with sensitivity and honesty. She was appreciative of the generosity of others given to her and returned that generosity many time over. All of us who counted her a friend have found our lives the richer for it!
