Obituary
Memorial Service for James “Jim” Edgar Atwood, 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 in Gaines County Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.

Jim passed away December 28, 2020 in Seminole.

He was born July 15, 1946 to Robert Gerald and Eunice Marie Brown Atwood in Artesia, New Mexico. Jim married Kathleen Middleton, April 22, 1983 in Vega. He was drafted but decided to join the Navy in January of 1966. He served all four years in Vietnam on the USS Westchester County LST and on the USS Okinawa LPH. Jim started his law enforcement career January 1970 in Andrews. During his career he worked for the Amarillo Police Department, Texas State Technical Institute, Oldham County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Vega before returning to Seminole. He retired from the Seminole PD in 1977 as Captain. He wa a reserve deputy and he worked for 10 years for the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jim is survived by his wife Kathleen Atwood of Seminole; two daughters Tish Keller and her husband Joe of Lubbock and Jamie Cashman and her fiancee Joel Padgett of Spring; one brother Tom Atwood and wife Myrna; one nephew Darren Atwood and wife Rachel and five wonderful grandchildren, Emma, Joey and Lila Keller and Delaney and Carter Cashman along with numerous cousins.
