Emerson M. Grooters, 81, died May 27, 1994, in his home.

Private graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 31, at 10 a.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Archie Echols, First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.

A retired chemical engineer for Phillips Petroleum for 37 years, he was a native of Greenleafton, Minnesota and a Borger resident for 52 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, valedictorian of the North Park High School in Michigan, and received his Master's Degree from Iowa State College. He was a member of the American Chemical Engineers, Omega Chi Epsilon, Ward Key, and Engineering Tech Society. He was a member of the Phillips Country Club and a past president of the Phillips Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1987 and his son Emerson Riddick Grooters in 1988, and his great-grandson, Johnathan Grooters in 1990.

He is survived by a son, John Allen Grooters of Orange; two daughters, Mollie Holton of Spearman; Nancy Amburn of Amarillo; two sisters, Evangeline Williamson of Des Moines, Iowa; and Betty Williams of Hedley; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Helen Riddick Grooters, 72, 114 Wilshire, died at 5:55 p.m. Thursday in Golden Plains Community Hospital.

A retired teacher after 12 years in the BISD and in Arkansas, she was a native of Morrilton, Ark., and a Borger resident since 1942 for 45 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, DAR, Phillips Literary Club, Retired Teachers Association, Theta Mu Sorority, various community organizations, and was a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway, Ark.

Survivors include her husband, Emerson of the home; two sons, Emerson Riddick Grooters of Stavanger, Norway, and John Allen Grooters of St. Louis, Mo; two daughters, Mollie Holton of Spearman, Nancy Amburn of Amarillo; a sister, Betty Williams of Hedley; and nine grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be Saturday at Westlawn with Rev. Glenneth Harrington, pastor, First United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.

Memorials may be made to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo or Girlstown.
