LONG-TIME CITIZEN DIES WEDNESDAY, FUNERAL YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT 5 O'CLOCK
---------------------
In the death of Morton M. Harris this week Milam county loses another of her oldest and most highly esteemed citizens, and the community of Tracy mourns him as a true friend gone to his well-earned reward.
Mr. Harris died at 6 a. m. Wednesday, following an illness of about two weeks duration. Funeral services were conducted at the Tracy Baptist church at 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with a former pastor, Rev. Kelley Simmons of Carizzo Springs, officiating, assisted by Rev. H. E. Crone, Rockdale Christian minister. Interment followed in the cemetery at Sharp. Mr. Harris had been a member of the Tracy Baptist church for more than 40 years.
Mr. Harris had spent his entire life in the Tracy community. He was born there on January 5, 1869, and was 69 years of age. He is survived by his wife and eight children, as follows:
Wallace Harris of Tracy; Mrs. E. B. Vanmeter of Rockdale; Mrs. Earl Robbins of Ft. Worth; Roy Harris of Tracy; Clyde Harris of Palestine; Mrs. Carey Moses of Waco; Mrs. Louise Taylor of Calvert, and Harry Harris of Rockdale. Thirteen grandchildren also survive him.
The funeral was one of the largest attended seen in the community in many years, friends coming from all sections of the county and from other sections to pay their last respects.
