BORGER - Carrol D. Helton, 95, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church in Borger. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors.

Carrol was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Joy to James and Bonnie Harrell Helton. He was the salutatorian of his graduating class in Groom. He graduated from West Texas State College in 1939 with a BS in Agriculture.

He was in the Army during World War II. He worked for Southwestern Public Service as an electrical meter man. Upon his retirement, he had been made foreman of the meter shop. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Borger.

He married Norma McKinney on June 15, 2002, in Sanford.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Mae; his parents; nine brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; five daughters, Carolyn Richmond and husband George of San Antonio, Janet Byars and husband Steve, and Mary Kay Kuhrts and husband Kurtis, all of Amarillo, Terri Tindall and husband Marc of Honduras, and Jana Schick and husband J.D. of Fritch; and many grandchildren and great-grandchilden.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Family Support Services, 1001 S. Polk St., Amarillo, TX 79101; Martha's Home, 1204 S.W. 18th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79102; or Torch, Box 9222, Columbus, MS 39705.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
