FRITCH - Richard "Dick" Harry Hendrickson, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Fairlanes Baptist Church. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.

Mr. Hendrickson passed away Thursday, Nov. 3 at SCCI Hospital in Amarillo after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Hendrickson was born March 18, 1922, in Tulsa, Okla., and was a resident of Phillips for 38 years and a resident of Fritch for 19 years. He worked for Phillips Petroleum for 38 years at the Philtex Plant. He married Glenna June Blackburn on May 27, 1946, in Cherryvale, Kan.

Richard was well-known as a songwriter, composer, guitarist and musician. When he was 13, his mother bought him a Carson J. Robison guitar which he learned to play. By the time he was 16, he became a member of "The Melodiers Band" performing in Oklahoma. Richard was in the 19th Combat Engineers from 1940 to 1945. During that time, he was overseas for 34 months in the 2nd Corps, 5th Army in England, Ireland, Scotland, North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Seven battle stars were among the medals he was awarded during his tour of duty. Then later in 2002, he was awarded the Purple Heart 58 years later by Mac Thornberry in a special presentation in Amarillo. After World War II, Richard played the bass fiddle with "The Circle Arrow Boys" and various other bands in the Texas Panhandle. During his music career, he produced his own records and his last accomplishment was a CD entitled, "Again at Twilight Time." In addition to his many musical performances, he also published five music books which have been sold all over the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Brown Hendrickson and Gladys Irene Tabor; three sisters, Geneva Hadaller, Ruby Palmer Klawitter and Pauline Coleman; and two brothers, Bob Hendrickson and Ronnie Tabor.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Glenna Hendrickson-Amerman and husband, Rodney, of Borger and Mona Hendrickson-Fannon and husband, Lyn, of Fritch; a son, Dan Hendrickson and wife, Glenda, of Abilene; three brothers, Jack Tabor of Perryton, Tom Hendrickson of Yuma, Ariz., and Bill Hendrickson of Eugene, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, Shane Henderson, Shawn Henderson, Rodney Amerman II, Joshua Jacob Amerman, Clint Hendrickson, Christina Haskell, Audrey Clow, John Hendrickson, Monica Fannon and Lance Fannon; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the granddaughters.

The family will be at 307 Loma Linda in Borger.
