BORGER - Erma Jean Knight, 77, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with David Miller officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Knight was born March 21, 1928, the oldest of four children to Emil F and Irena (Kate) Carra, on the family farm near Niotaze, Kan. She was educated in Caney, Kan. Erma married Jacob Charles Knight in Niotaze on Jan. 3, 1947.

Jean and Jay were employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in various locations, including Bartlesville, Okla., Oklahoma City, Pampa and Borger, where they lived for the past 44 years. She retired from the Philtex-Ryton facility in 1986.

They enjoyed 19 years of retirement by traveling across the United States, Canada and Europe. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997 with a special trip to Australia and New Zealand. They spent many winters in Tucson, Ariz. Jean was an avid reader and gardener and was a fourth generation quilter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years on Feb. 27, 2005; and a grandson, Cody Mihm in 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Jana Belew and husband, Mark, of Amarillo and Jeri Mihm and husband, Joe, of Borger; a grandson, Kevin Mihm of Stillwater, Okla.; three brothers, Mike Carra and wife, Ruth, of Fort Worth, Alex Carra and wife, Sherry, of Springfield, Mo., and Fred Carra of Caney; a sister-in-law, Mary D. Lounsbury and husband, Bernard, of Towanda, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Sam Knight and wife, Mary, of Coffeyville, Kan.; four aunts, Betty Henderson of Pampa, Betty Behne of Dumas, Donna Wilson of Baton Rouge, La., and Marie Henderson of Niotaze; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her friends in the Patchwork Pals Quilt Club of Borger, the R&R Quilters of Amarillo and her special friends, Shirley Nesbitt of Amarillo and Tamie Boston of Borger.

The family suggests memorials be to Odyssey Health Care, 1000 S. Jefferson St., Amarillo, TX 79101; or Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society, 3501 S. Osage St., Amarillo, TX 79103.
