James (Jimmy) Kuroki, pioneer Borger businessman, died at North Plains Hospital at 9:30 p.m. Friday. A native of Japan, Mr. Kuroki came to the United States in 1907 and to Borger in 1919. He became a United States citizen in 1953.
He stated the $10 legal fee for citizenship was the "best $10 I ever spent." Japanese could not become U.S. citizens until late in 1952 and Mr. Kuroki applied for citizenship as soon as the law permitted.
Mr. Kuroki was 70 at the time of death. He had owned and operated the Deluxe Cafe, 528 North Main, since coming to Borger. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Borger Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Sada, of the home, 120 West Coolidge; a daughter, Sharon of Borger; two sons, Claude of Borger and Gary of the U.S. Army in Manila.
Funeral services are pending at the Minton Mortuary.
