Ophelia Matthews, 92 of Tomball, formerly of Thorndale passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009 at Helping Hands in Tomball, TX. Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 10 AM, Friday, June 19, 2009 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor, TX. Burial will be at 2 PM, at McClanahan Cemetery in Marlin, TX.

Ophelia Marks Matthews was born on March 23, 1917 in Rodgers, Bell County, TX. to Marion and Martha (Pressley) Marks. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and had a profound but simple faith. She trusted the Lord completely for her life. Ophelia was a member of the Littlevine Primitive Baptist Church in Austin. She joined the church as a young a woman. She enjoyed Sacred Heart singing.

She married Willard Bennett Rodgers in 1940. Ophelia was a homemaker most of her life and she took wonderful care of her family. This marriage was blessed with three children. Mother and daddy moved to Houston in 1942. She lost her first husband Willard, January 29, 1965. From then, she worked at the Memorial N.W. Hospital as a daycare nursery attendant for the doctors and nurses children. She married her second husband, B. E. Matthews November of 1979. They moved back to Fyffe, Alabama to his home place. They lived there for a few years until they moved to Thorndale. She remained there until B.E.'s death in December 2002. Ophelia then moved to her own apartment in a retirement home in Tomball, TX. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very deeply and took great pleasure in her visits with them. She will be deeply missed by her family and a multitude of friends and all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Estelle, Oma, Era, and twin, Obelia; brother, Conor Marks, husbands, Willard Rodgers and B. E. Matthews.

Ophelia is survived by sons, Wayne Rodgers and wife, Judy of Magnolia; Bobby Rodgers and wife, Barbara of Navasota; daughter, Martha Kovar and husband, Johnny of Thorndale; eight grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jason Kovar, John Kovar, Robbie Jones, Stephen Kloesel, Brian Rodgers, and Charles Branter. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordyn Rodgers, Taylor Jones, and Adam Waddell.

Memorials may be made to Littlevine Primitive Baptist Church, 913 E. 52nd Street, Austin, TX. 78751 in Ophelia's memory.
