A longtime Borger mail carrier died Wednesday in St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo.

Funeral services for Douglas E. Meador, 67, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bill Fowler, pastor, and the Rev. Merrill Morgan, pastor Fritch Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors.

He was a letter carrier for 45 years, retiring two years ago. He served on the original team of MSCEI/QWL Joint Steering Committee for the United States Post Office until 1994, and was a member of the National Association Letter Carriers, past State President of Texas Association of National Business Agents for the Southern Region, and Retired National Officers N.A.L.C.

He was a member of American Legion, Hutchinson County Democratic Party, and coached a Pony League Baseball team for five years.

Meador attended Frank Phillips College and Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, and a longtime Sunday School Superintendent and Board Member.

He was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army heavy artillery, and member of the Military Service Counter Intelligence Corp. in the Army in Baltimore, Md.

He married Johnnie Johnson on Oct. 12, 1948 in Little Rock, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mayola Meador in 1968.

Survivors include his wife; his father, the Rev. Amos R. Meador of Borger; a brother, J.T. Meador of Upland, Calif.; six sisters, Vermell Meador of Borger; Nelda Moore of Bethany, Okla.; Katheryn Thomason of Arkadelphia, Ark.; Charlotte Gasaway of Odessa; Reba Meador of Bartlesville, Okla; Rebekah Fabian of Burke, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
