BORGER - Shirley Nesbitt, 62, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009.

Shirley was a generous wife, mother, daughter, sister, and fiancee. She will be missed by her fiance, Bud Teegarden; her father, Flavil Ayers; her brother, Glenn Ayers; her daughter, Kisaundra Harris; her son-in-law, D.J. Harris; her granddogs, Maynard and Slate; and her parakeet Chipper.

Shirley was born to Flavil and Josephine Ayers on June 3, 1947. She grew up in Spearman and graduated from Spearman High School. She attended Oklahoma Christian College and then transferred to Frank Phillips College, where she met her husband, Byron.

The two married Jan. 18, 1969, and they soon moved to Canyon, where both attended West Texas State University. Shirley worked in the college library and earned what she liked to call a Ph.T. ("Put Hubby Through.")

They had one child, Kisaundra, and made their home in Borger. Shirley was a stay-at-home mom until 1992, when she began working at Frank Phillips College Library. Both she and her husband were members of the Fritch Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her mother and husband.

Shirley moved to Amarillo in 2005 and resided at Canyon View Estates. During this time, another loving man, Bud, entered her life; they became engaged in May 2008.

Shirley was a master garage saler, quilter, and teddy bear collector. She loved Sonic Route 44 vanilla diet Cokes and Snickers. In her later years, Shirley fought a brave battle against multiple sclerosis. Shirley had a peaceful and kind-hearted soul, and she will be dearly missed by all of those who were blessed to meet her.

The family would like to express its gratitude for the compassionate care Shirley received from the nurses and staff at BSA Hospice (Olivia's Angels).

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fritch Church of Christ. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Nesbitt will lie in state from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to Olivia's Angels, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX, 79105; or Amarillo S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 1014, Amarillo, TX, 79105.
