TEXAS CITY —Virginia Pelton, 93, passed away July 24, 2013 at her residence in Texas City. A private celebration of her life will be held for her family and close friends. Her ashes will be interred alongside her husband, James O. Pelton, at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Virginia was welcomed into Heaven by her husband Jake, her daughter MaryAnn Maddux, her parents Tom and Martha Stockman, and her grandparents John and Agnes Martin.
She is survived by her daughter Doris Melling and husband Bob of Clear Lake, granddaughters Janan Mitchell and husband Effton of Chattanooga, TN and Laila Utley and husband Bruce and great-granddaughter Jordan Utley of Alpharetta, GA, her dearest friend Irene Shaver and husband Bill of Clear Lake, and other loving family and friends.
Virginia was born on February 15, 1920 in Kirbyville, TX. Her family moved to Galveston in 1930 where she graduated from Ball High School. She moved to Texas City in 1939 and was a survivor of the 1947 Texas City disaster. She was a gifted seamstress and dress designer, talented artist, Sunday school teacher, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and volunteer in the Texas City schools. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Texas City until her physical disabilities limited her attendance.
Virginia was a loving wife, adoring mother and grandmother, and devoted friend and has left a strong legacy of faith, family values, kindness and charity. She has completed her earthly journey and returned to our Lord's loving embrace. She will always be in our hearts and minds and remain close through our love.
