*Obituary
Lavon Payton, 64, who resided east of Borger, died Monday in High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo.
A housewife, she was a native of Kenna, N.M. and a county resident since 1945.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and she held local and state offices. She helped organize the Alhambra Home Demonstration Club, was a leader of the Spring Creek 4H Club and a volunteer at Girlstown.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon, of the home, five sisters, Loveta Vaughn of Borger, Freddie Berryhill, Borger, Peggy Anthony of Amarillo, Billie Jean Jones, Albuquerque, N.M., Jo Coleman, Torrance, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenneth Harrington officiating.
Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Memorials mayu [sic] be made to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo.
