*Obituary

Funeral services for John Payton Dickson, 75, of Levelland will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Levelland with Dr. Brian Hill, Minister of Education, officiating. Burial will be in the City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home of Levelland. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 28, 2008.

John was born to Lulu and Homer Dickson on January 5, 1933 in Monroe, La. He spent his early childhood in Lindale, Texas before moving to Sundown, where he graduated from Sundown High School. He attended Texas A & M University (Gig'em Aggies) and graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hood. He married Lunette Cook on August 12, 1955 in Quanah. The couple moved to Levelland where John went to work for the Levelland Public School System. In 1962, John joined the South Plains College Administration as tax assessor-collector. He remained as the school's "tax man" until 1982, when he became the Business Manager. During his years at SPC, he was a dedicated supporter of the school's athletic program and remained so even after his retirement in 1993. Retirement afforded him time to pursue his love of golf and follow Lunette while she traveled. He also enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Lulu Dickson
