Doris Earline Hart Helfenstein, 69, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at her residence in Galveston. A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home,
Galveston, with the Rev. Alan Taylor, Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow
services Tuesday at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, Alta Loma, Texas. Mrs. Helfenstein's family will be receiving friends for visitation at the Funeral Home Monday, June 10, 2002, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Mrs. Helfenstein was born on Galveston Island November 11, 1932. For some ten years, Mrs. Helfenstein was an employee in the customer service division of Wal-Mart Supercenter until such time that she retired. She was a loving and kind individual dedicating herself entirely to her family. With her life she built a foundation with love and commitment, leaving behind a lifetime of memories to share and to keep and to hold within the hearts of those that knew her and loved her.
Mrs. Helfenstein is preceded in death by her loving
husband, Paul Michael Helfenstein and her only sister, Marie Martorell.
She leaves behind cherished moments with her two sons,
Clarence 'Sonny1 Kurtz and wife, Donna, of Santa Fe, Texas and Michael Helfenstein and wife, Linda of Texas City, Texas. Sharing in this loss, also, are Mrs. Helfenstein's five grandchildren, Kimberly Kitchen, Carole Hallows, Michael Helfenstein, II, Lindsey Helfenstein and Jamie Helfenstein, her three great-grandchildren, Aaron and Anthony Kitchen and Cassidy Hallows, her only brother, Woody Bekkema and wife Donna of Galveston, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Butch Martorell, Fred Martorell, Michael Martorell, Michael Helfenstein, Alan Dickman and Brad Price. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Ford, Louis Dannar and Ryan Martorell.
