Services for "Doc" Cranfill, 96, of Lubbock, will be at Neil Chapel, Carillon Campus, 1717 Norfolk, Lubbock at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, with Reverend John Ballard officiating. Burial will be at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

Boyd "Doc" Cranfill passed away on Nov. 29, 2007, at the age of 96. Doc was born in Erath County, on May 10, 1911, to Isom and Vashti Cranfill. He attended schools in Wilson. He married Hazel Alderson Jan. 22, 1938.

Doc was a farmer all his life in Wilson, Slaton and Hockley County. Doc developed a relentless work ethic and his love for the land and outdoors never went away. Doc was a humble man with simple tastes. He was a very loving husband, brother and uncle. He was loved by all who knew him and he cherished all his new friends at Carillon.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel on Sept. 12, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings ñ sisters, Lois Hart, Juanita Alden, and Joreta Moore; brothers, Orville Cranfill and Wendell Cranfill.

He is survived by one sister, Doris Alderson and husband Lowell of Lubbock.

Doc and Hazel never had children of their own but had many nieces and nephews who loved them dearly. Special nieces and nephews who were his caretakers include ñ Juanell Johnson, Sharon Alderson, Francene and Kenneth James, Craig and Diane Alderson all of Lubbock; Nadine and Grady Elder of Destin, Fla. and Linda and Robert Bennett of Ft. Worth.
