Clarence Edward Thetford, 64, passed away September 2, 2010 in Del Rio, Texas. CE was born October 27, 1945 in Littlefield, Texas, to Crockett and Lillie Thetford.
He is survived by his wife, Margie; daughters, Jeannie Thetford Valentine and husband Charlie of Liberty, NC, and Julie Thetford Hardy and husband Ken of Longview, Texas; seven grandchildren including Wade Valentine, Morgan Valentine, Brooke Thetford, Matthew Crockett Thetford, Jr., Tyler Beck, Ty Horne and Klay Horne. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Thetford and wife Libby of Levelland, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Whitharral High School in Whitharral, Texas in 1964. He attended Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and graduated with a BA in Science in 1971. CE's career was with the Southern Pacific Railroad and he retired in February 1998 after 30 years.
He married Margie Reed, the love of his life for 44 years, on March 11, 1966 in Alpine, Texas. They have built their home in Del Rio, Texas for the past 35 years. CE and Margie had four children, William Ashley Thetford, Matthew Crockett Thetford, Jeanie Thetford Valentine and Julie Thetford Hardy.
CE was active in the All Sports Booster Club and loved to coach football and baseball. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hosting the annual Del Rio Fireman's Kite Flight fishing tournament. He spent many hours in his garden and cooked many meals for family and friends. He was an active member and Deacon of Central Church of Christ in Del Rio, Texas.
CE was preceded in death by his parents, Crockett and Lillie Thetford; a brother, Norman Lee Thetford in 1990; and his sons, William Ashley Thetford in 1967 and Matthew Crockett Thetford in 2008.
Funeral Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Central Church of Christ, Del Rio, Texas with Glenn Boyd officiating. Graveside Services and burial will be in Whitharral Cemetery, on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 4 p.m. under direction of G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home, Whitharral, Texas with Glenn Boyd officiating.
