*Obituary

Shari Levy Blum, loving and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on August 29, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Shari lived her life with warmth, compassion and grace; a life which centered around her devotion and love of family. With the grace and dignity that she lived her life, she passed, with the love of her family at her side. She was born on February 14, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY and was preceded in death by her parents, Celia Levy and Israel Levy and her sister, Mildred Roskin. Her family moved to Dallas in 1949. Shari attended Highland Park High School and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Shari met her husband, Jerald “Jerry”, in Dallas, and they were engaged when he was in medical school in Houston. She taught first grade in Houston and later taught religious school classes at Temple Emanu-El in Dallas. Shari was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and most recently cherished her work at Temple Emanu-El as the Keeper of the Light. She was a 50 year member of Temple Emanu-El. She enjoyed the Arts, reading and volunteering. Shari and Jerry traveled all over the world for new adventures and knowledge, but most important to her was a life which revolved around family togetherness. She spent many summers on fun beach vacations with the entire family. Shari had frequent large family gatherings for dinner and holiday dinners always included her memorable sentimental toasts. Shari is survived by her soulmate and love, Dr. Jerald Blum, husband of 61 years; their three daughters, Lynda Kaufman (Perry), Dr. Karen Blum, Terri Fishman (Alan). She was beloved “Gram” to her grandchildren, Alison Colston (Ray), Scott Kaufman, Stephanie Fishman and Kimberly Fishman. She was also blessed by her great grandsons, Noah and Samuel Colston. A private burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Stern Chapel at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LeukemiaTexas.org or Temple Emanu-El. Online condolences may be made to www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com.
