Ann Reed Fuqua died March 5 at the Community Hospice House of Texas in Burleson. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 8 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ike Tennison officiating. Burial will be at Gentry's Mill Cemetery.

Mrs. Fuqua was born June 24, 1931 in Burnet County to Wayne and Mattie Whitley Reed. She attended public schools in Bertram, Austin and Hamilton where she graduated in 1949. She was involved in many activities in school, including cheerleading.

She was married to [Verl] Gene "Soup" Fuqua on Dec. 24, 1950 in the First Presbyterian Church at Hamilton. [Hamilton County Marriage Record Bk. 11, p. 325]

After graduation, she was employed by the Hamilton County Tax office. She moved to Arlington where she worked for Bell Helicopter for a short while and for the City of Arlington for 30 years before retiring in 1984.

During her 30 years of employment with the City of Arlington, she worked in the water department, engineering department, budget office and was secretary for the city manager. After retiring, she moved back to Hamilton where she was active in civic and community affairs. She was a member of the Arlington Business Women's Association, an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton, charter member and regent of Ann Whitney Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Friends of Hamilton Public Library, charter member of Hamilton County Historical Commission, charter member Hamilton Genealogy Society and charter member of Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary.

She was an avid researcher of her family history and assisted others in their research. During her research she discovered her family connection to James Northcross, one of the defenders of the Alamo and the only reverend to be killed there on March 6, 1836.

During her research she also discovered a family connection of her husband to Galba Fuqua, the youngest defender to die at the Alamo. She took great pride in the contributions her ancestors made toward the molding of this nation between 1635 and present time.

Mrs. Fuqua had friends throughout the world and during her sickness, prayers were offered at the Wailing Wall in Israel.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Gene Stuart Fuqua and wife Debbie Tapp Fuqua of Bedford and Andy Keith Fuqua and wife Debbie Ann Fuqua of Arlington; two grandsons, Chad Keith Fuqua and Adam Ryan Fuqua; two step-grandchildren, Micah Tapp and Jennifer Tapp Gugel, both of Bedford; two sisters, Ms. A.E.
