Fox, Rose Schur Rose Schur Fox, 99 years old, died at her home in Dallas on January 2, 2012. Rose was born on October 18, 1912, in New York City to Sarah Schur and Max Schur, Russian immigrants who fled to the US at the time of the pogroms. Her father worked in New York for five years to bring over the rest of the family from Russia. Mrs. Fox believed in the importance of education and wanted to give her family more opportunities to acquire the American Dream. Throughout her life, she worked diligently to provide for her family. After graduating from high school early at 14, she worked in New York City as a hospital transcriptionist and as an executive assistant at the importing business, the Reiser Company. She married Nathan Joseph Fox in New York City on December 26, 1933 and moved to Dallas in 1935. She and her husband founded Phyllis Ann Accessories with their warehouse at 1212 Motor Street in Dallas and showrooms at the Dallas, Denver, and Atlanta marts. She was known for providing accessories for the Kim Dawson fashion shows at markets. She continued in this business after her husband's death in 1981. Known for her work ethic, she worked until the age of 86, when she retired. She had one son, Howard James, a physician and graduate of Dartmouth and Harvard Medical School who preceded her in death at age 28 in 1971 after serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. She also had two daughters, Phyllis Ann, who attended Goucher and NYU and lives in Dallas with her husband Martin Mills, and Carol Sue, who attended Smith College and married Dr. Thomas L. Kurt, then living in Denver, later in Highland Park in Dallas for 26 years, and now in Aspen. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Johanna Kurt, Gretchen Kurt, Erika Kurt, Evelyn Kirschner, Andrew Mills, and Joshua Mills, as well as six great-grandchildren. Rose was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Dallas for 77 years, where she was active on the Council of World Affairs with Rabbi Olin and Rabbi Klein. She survived her brothers Aaron, Benjamin, Joseph, and Jack and sisters Anna and Ida. Her services will be at Temple Emanu-El Lefkowitz Chapel on January 5th at 2:00 pm and internment at Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Temple Emanu-El, Rabbi Stern's Good Works Fund, 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas 75225.
