John "Steve" Schroeder
July 31, 1934 - May 15, 2017

John "Steve" Schroeder passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at Amarillo, Texas.

He was born July 31, 1934 in Borger, Texas to Howard and Ethel Schroeder.

He married Joyce Boyles Schroeder August 26, 1953 in Roswell, New Mexico. They enjoyed 49 1/2 years of marriage until her death January 2, 2004. He was a cowboy for the 6666 Ranch before becoming employed by Phillips Petroleum, he was a long-time employee until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and traveled to Colorado every year since the late 1950's for big game hunts and continued the annual bow hunting elk trips with his friends until 2016. His skills as a marksman, both with guns and bows, was remarkable. John was a member of the Canadian River Bow and Gun Range. He was well known for his knife making skills. A multi-talented artist, he did etchings on knives and did creative stone carvings. He was an amazing artist and a self-taught archaeologist. He loved the outdoors and taught all of his children and grandchildren to appreciate the outdoors and the value of life. In the earlier years, Steve and Joyce enjoyed the Gem and Mineral Society.

Steve developed long lasting friendships and ties and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was a shooting. fishing and hunting partner for his son, grandchildren and friends for 50+ years. He was a devout Christian.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Lea in 2004; a son, Karl Shane Schroeder in 1957; a brother, Jackson Schroeder.

Survivors are: a son, Clay Schroeder and wife Rhonda of Borger, Texas; 2 daughters: Sandra Sargent and husband David of Southlake, Texas and Sarah Mooring of Allen, Texas; 2 brothers: Marion Schroeder of Pampa, Texas and Gerald Schroeder and wife Julie of Billings, Montana; 7 grand children: Dr. Timothy Mooring and wife Dr. Amanda Godfrey of Amarillo, Texas; Bradley Mooring and wife Emily (Mebane) of Rowlett, Texas; Rebecca Zona and husband Louis of Allen, Texas; Kelsy Sargent of Vale, Colorado; Jacob Schroeder and wife Ashley of Austin, Texas; Lindsey Overall and husband Kash of Borger, Texas and Christopher Sargent of Dallas, Texas; 6 great grand-children: Hudson, Sophie, Vivian, Brody, Dawson and Phoebe.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 20. 2017 at 10:00 AM at Westlawn Cemetery, Borger, Texas.

Mr. Schroeder will lie in state at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains, Borger Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM . The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains.
