Roby - Herbert George Bennett, 91, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Hamlin Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 10 AM, Thursday, March 23, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Roby with Pastor Charlie Johnson officiating.
Burial will take place in Roby Cemetery directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born August 30, 1914, in Sherman, Texas, Herbert was a son of the late Jim and Eula (Neves) Bennett. Herbert moved to Roby as a child and was raised along with his twin brother, Hubert and a sister, Mattie, by his maternal grandparents, George and Martha Neves.
He would live out his life in Roby with the exception of time served in the Air Force during W. W. II, as an airplane mechanic.
He married Ophelie E. Kincaid in Albany on January 15, 1947, and went to work as a farmer for 44 years. In his spare time, Herbert loved to fish and was a volunteer fireman.
Herbert was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Roby where he sang in the choir.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ophelie E. (Kincaid) Bennett; his twin brother, Hubert Bennett; and 3 daughters - Brenda K, Linda Faye, and Beverly Gay Bennett.
Survivors include 2 daughters and sons in law - Sherrye and David Cooper of Snyder and Terrye and Larry Gruben of Roby; one sister, Mattie Landers of Hico, Texas; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joretta and Travis Elliott of Snyder; two grandsons - Dale Cooper and his wife Cassie of Snyder and Jason Gruben and his wife, Karen; one great-granddaughter, Haylee Gruben; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 22, 2006, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
