LA MARQUE — Antonio "Tony" Marquez, 83, left his earthly home in La Marque, Texas on Sunday, January 16, 2011, for his new home with the Lord surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 5, 1927, in Galveston, Texas. He was a retired railroad engineer.

Papa Tony was an avid golfer and boat enthusiast. His passion for baseball led to many years as a well-known umpire and a Little League coach.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Maria Marquez; sons, George Marquez and wife Pat, Alex Marquez and wife Kimberly, and Peter Marquez; daughters Mercedes Morgan and husband Ron, Maria D. Jones, Helena Selman and husband Billy; brother Rod Marquez; sisters Guadalupe Fuentes, Pilar Marquez, Maria Escamilla, and Stephanie Hawley; eighteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. A Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. with memorial service following at 7:00 p.m, all to be held at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway Texas City, TX 77591.

The family would like to thank AMED Hospice for their compassionate care of Mr. Marquez. In lieu of flowers they request donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
