ROTAN - John Carl Gruben, 79, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000.

Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Evans and the Rev. Mike O'Neill officiating. Burial in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.

Mr. Gruben was born in the Royston community and attended school there. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a farmer. He married Aladean Smith in 1946.

Survivors include his wife of Rotan; one daughter, Pat Helms of Rotan; one son, Donald Gruben of Rotan; four brothers, Paul Gruben of Lovington, N.M., Earnest Gruben of Kermit, Dick Gruben of Royston, Troy Gruben of Roby; three sisters, Irene Clark of Rotan, Bill Summerlin of Snyder, Rose Young of Littlefield; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
