GALVESTON - Rudolph Q. "Rudy" Mejia Sr., 55, passed
away Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at his residence in Galveston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, at Holy Rosary Church, Galveston with Fr. Paul Banet, as celebrant. Entombment will follow services today at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Alta
Loma, Texas. A vigil for Mr. Mejia was held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2000, followed by the rosary, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, also in Galveston. Mr. Mejia's family received friends at the funeral home Sunday evening after 5:00 p.m.

Although Rudy was born in El Salto, Jal., Mexico, on August 30, 1944, he has been a longtime Galveston resident. Before becoming disabled, Rudy was employed as a sales representative for an auto parts store here on the island. He loved his family and did what he could to provide for each of them. Rudy was independent even with his disability and never wanted to cause any trouble to his family for his well-being. He was a strong-willed person never letting his disabilities overpower him, enduring his ailments with positive thoughts. Rudy was an
avid fisherman, enjoying fishing and enjoying even more, the wonderful "fish stories" with all his friends.

Preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Quiroz Mejia,

Rudy leaves behind his loving wife, Josephine "Josie" Mejia of Galveston; and his two sons, Ismael Mejia and Rudolph "John Rudy" Mejia Jr., both of Galveston. Also saddened by this loss is Rudy's father, Victor Casillas of Mexico, his stepfather, Julius Mejia Sr.; sister, Hortense Mireles and husband, Antonio, Jr. of Houston; his three brothers, Guadalupe Lemus of Mexico, Julius Mejia Jr. and Lionel Mejia, both of Galveston, numerous nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and extended family in Mexico and many friends.

Rudy will be sadly missed yet his memories will be shared by all that knew him and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Ismael Mejia, Steven Flores, James Flores, Pete Martinez Sr., Julius Mejia Jr., Lionel Mejia, Antonio Mireles in, Julius Mejia II, and Michael Mejia.
