Bettie Alma Polk, our loving Memaw, 80, 0f Santa Fe, Texas, passed away March 6, 2013. Bettie was born to James and Georgia Dorton on July 12, 1932 in Orrick, Missouri. She was an avid bowler, inducted into the Bowling Hall Of Fame and was the past president Emeritus of the Galveston Women's Bowling Association.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Martha Virginia Brown, and Nancy A. Case; and brothers, Stanley Dorton, James (Bud) Thomas Dorton, Henry (Ed) Dorton, and Robert (Bobby) Dorton.

She is survived by her husband, Roland Polk; daughter, Debbie Mitchell Russell (Bill); Son, Richard James Mitchell, Sr. (Kathy); Stepdaughters, Joanne Strychalki, Dorothy Blagg (Dr. Bob) and Nancy Lumbra (Daniel); Sister, Sandy McReynolds (Roger).

She also leaves grandchildren Tamara Mitchell Ostermayer, Lauren Mitchell, Richard James Mitchell, Jr. (Julie) and their mother, Janet Mitchell as well as other grandchildren Kit Schellien Garcia, Robert Michael (Snapper) Carden, Sydney Carden, Johanna Strychalki, Robert Harmon Hoot, James Benjamin Hoot, and Megan and Shannon Lumbra; and twelve great grandchildren.

Bettie will be missed by Niles and Paulette Brown and numerous other nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends that loved her.

Bettie Loved her family and was looked upon as the "Grand" Leader, always there for those who needed her. She had many bowling "children" that she was very close to. Memaw will forever be the light of our life.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Crowder Funeral Home, Dickinson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 4:00 p.m., Crowder Funeral Home, Dickinson, Texas. Interment will follow at Grace Hayes Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Richard James Mitchell, Sr., Richard James Mitchell, Jr., Robert Michael Carden, Dan Lumbra, Dr. Bob Blagg and Bill Russell. Honorary pall bearers are C. Roger McReynolds, Niles W. Brown and Jerry Gray.
