*Obituary for Mooney
SKELLYTOWN - Mooney Stall, 86, died Sunday, July 18, 2004.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Fines Marchman, pastor, officiating. Burial with military rites provided by the Honor Guard of Altus Air Force Base will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Borger. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mooney was born in Wellington on Aug. 16, 1917, to Thomas Stall and Mary Mooney Stall. He apprenticed woodwork with his father from the time he could hold a hammer. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1934 where he was an athlete and a scholar.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps Jan. 2, 1942. He served as a staff sergeant during World War II, where he made five bloody beachhead landings on Guadalcanal, Saipan, Tinlan, Tulagi and Tarawa in the Pacific Theater. He earned the Purple Heart for taking enemy fire as he carried his commanding officer off the battlefield.

He married Cletta Bowling on Aug. 19, 1976, in Phillips. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Skellytown where he served on the building committee, the tally committee and was a member of the Fellowship Men's Sunday school class. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Lion's Club. He was a carpenter and furniture and cabinet maker who had a shop in Amarillo and later worked in the Borger area as an independent builder.

His life was marked by grace and service. He was a passionate, vibrant, loyal and hardworking man who deeply loved his family, friends and dogs, but hated bad manners and rattlesnakes.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sandra Foust of Amarillo and Cindy Raburn and Mondessa Morton, both of Bastrop; three sons, David Stall of Bastrop, Kerry Bowling of Amarillo and Ronnie Bowling of Ionia, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Stall of Pampa; 13 grandchildren, Shanna Foust-Peeples, Rondi Foust-Henderson, Colin Foust, Melanie Waren, Anna Bowling, Nastasha Bowling, Logan Bowling, Shay Bowling, Ashley Winkler, Jennifer Mendoza, Chris Kingsbury, Trina Craddock and Greg Morton; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Skellytown Youth Fund or to the American Cancer Society, District 15, Attn: Memorials, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
