Death of Mrs. Indiana Martin
Mrs. Indiana Martin, wife of Elder Robert Martin, deceased, of Rocky Mount, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. S. R. Bryant, at Claytonville, Fisher County, Texas, on Dec. 9, 1901; aged 83 years, 11 months and 7 days. Mrs. Martin was born in Georgia, Jan. 2, 1818, and was married February 19, 1839, to Robert Martin, with whom she moved to Bossier Parish in 1852. "She and her husband professed religion in 1840 and became members of the Baptist church, the husband soon entering the ministry and she a faithful and consistent minster's wife, sharing with him the hardships as well as the joys of frontier preaching."
Mrs. Martin leaves behind her one son (Dr. R. B. Martin) and one daughter in this parish, and three sons and two daughters in Texas. She also leaves 34 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A noble woman, whose long useful life was unselfishly devoted in helping others to live better, has gone to her home above, mourned by all who knew her.
