BORGER - Dr. L. Boyd Stephens, 88, died Thursday, June 3, 1999.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Faith Covenant Church with the Rev. Ken Sheppard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Prayer in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Dr. Stephens was born in Gilmer and had lived in Borger since 1941. He was a dentist and a member of Faith Covenant Church and Borger Noon Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clare Stephens, in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Stephens; a son, James Stephens of Dallas; a daughter, Laura McCarthy of Plano; two stepsons, David Denny of Borger and Jim Denny of Borger; a sister, Dot Caffey of Gladewater; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.

Mabel Clare Stephens, 71, of 213 W. Adams St., died Monday in High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Winfred Moore, pastor of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, officiating.

Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors.

A native of Waco, she had been a Borger resident for 45 years. She was a housewife, member of First Baptist Church, graduate of Baylor University. She was a member of 20th Century Club, past member of Women of Rotary and Huber Ladies Golf Association.

Survivors include her husband, Boyd; a son, James Boyd Stephens of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. Laura Bess McCarthy of Lucas, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Lehr, John Bayless, Mutt Warren, John Stephens, Dr. Hugh Pennal and Harris Hamptaon.
