Hugh Donald Fitzgerald of Monte Vista, died February 22nd, 2015 at Veteran's Community Living Center at Homelake in Monte Vista. He was 82.
Hugh was born August 20th, 1932 in Hampton, VA, to Hugh and Evelyn Fitzgerald.
A native of Hampton Virginia, Mr. Fitzgerald was a 1951 graduate of Hampton High School and member of the football team. Mr. Fitzgerald served in the U.S. Army and was awarded a purple heart in the Korean War. He was a graduate of the NACA Apprentice School, and worked 38 years in the space program and the earth resources program for NASA and various contractors. Mr. Fitzgerald was very active member of the community where he raised his family; La Porte, Texas. He served as Scout Master, president of the local swim team, coach for many summer baseball teams and was a proud father and supporter of his three very involved children.
He is survived by his children, Don and Joy Fitzgerald (and children of Friendswood, Texas); Mark and Christi Fitzgerald (and children of Houston, Texas), and Amy Phillips and Terry Hoecker (and daughter of Mancos, Colorado).
He is preceded in death by his the love of his life – his wife, Mabel Eugenia Fitzgerald.
Celebration of life and burial of cremated remains will occur at Hayes-Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas May 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
