Funeral services for J.R. Thomas, Jr., 61, of 201 Abilene, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Skaggs, pastor officiating, assisted by Rev. Leonard Forsythe, pastor of Bible Baptist Church.
Thomas, a radio technician and owner of Thomas 2-Way, died at 1:35 p.m. Saturday in North Plains Hospital.
He was a native of Elk City, Okla. and had been a resident of Hutchinson County for 27 years.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Velma of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Joan Haynes of Amarillo; his mother, Mrs Joe R. Thomas, Sr. of Chillicothe; one brother, Ralph Thomas of Chillicothe; and five grandchildren.
Thomas was preceded in death by one son Bill Melton, and one daughter, Mrs. Jolene Loar.
Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Pallbearers will be Ken Turner, Henry Colvert, Bill Gillman, Johnny Gillman, C.O. Sparkman and David Langen.

BORGER - Velma Lee Thomas, 73, died Sunday, July 11, 1999.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. D.J. Lewis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Good Shepherd in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton / Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Miami, Ariz., and had been a Borger resident since 1952. She was a homemaker, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a volunteer for Helping Hands.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thomas, in 1979 and by a son, Bill Melton, in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Haynes of Canyon; two brothers, John R. Johnston of German and James W. Johnston of Amarillo; and two grandchildren.
