Vertie Katrausky peacefully passed away on February 25, 2008, after a brief illness. She was 91 years old. Born in Mamou, Louisiana on October 14, 1916 to Arnold & Arita Marcantel, Vertie was one of twelve children. She deeply cherished her childhood memories on the family farm and proudly boasted of her Cajun heritage. Vertie was a devout Catholic, serving for many years as a lay minister at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque, Texas and was an active volunteer in numerous organizations. She never wavered in her faith and embraced God’s will as she bravely fought the ravages of cancer.
A devoted wife and mother, Vertie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lovedee, her beloved son, Gordon and her husband, Peter.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Marcantel and wife, Emma, her sister, Geraldine Fontenot, her devoted grandson, David Phillips and wife Amy, her precious great-grandchildren Jack Kelley and Victoria Grace, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Vertie will be remembered by her loving family and extensive circle of friends as a kind and gracious soul with a love for serving others.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in LaMarque, Texas at 11 a.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
