LA MARQUE - Ms. Lelia Pratt, 94, passed away, Thursday, January 15, 2004, at Hearthstone Care Center in Texas City, Texas. Ms. Pratt was born October 5, 1909, in Deport, Texas, to Dan and Lottie Porter. She was a resident of La Marque for over fifty-two years and formerly of Galveston, as well as a member of Mainland Church of Christ in La Marque. Ms. Pratt was a school teacher for thirty-six years, for both Galveston ISD and La Marque ISD; an author of a well known book "Thirty-Six Years of Teaching and Then Some"; a translator for the US Government during World War II; and a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW in La Marque.

Ms. Pratt is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald L. Pratt; her sister Helen Jones; and her brother Buck Porter. She is survived by one son, Dan Pratt; three sisters, Linnie Ray from Kerville, Texas, Irene Keener from Fort Worth, Texas, and Virginia McAllister from Fayetteville, Arkansas; and one brother, Steve Porter of Paris, Texas.

A committal service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Grace Memorial Park in the Mausoleum, with Mr. Tom Medlin officiating. Arrangements under the direction of the James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to A-Med Hospice 8901 E. F. Lowry Expressway Suite B, Texas City, Texas 77591.
