GALVESTON — Harold James Frater, 71, of Galveston died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital in Galveston. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, the Rev. E.M. Harris officiating. Entombment will follow at Grace
Memorial Park in Alta Loma, under the direction of Fields Funeral Home of Galveston. Visitation is setafter 5 p.m.
today at, Mount Calvary Baptist Church. A wake will be held 7-8 p.m. today at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

Born June 3, 1918, in Chandler,Mr. Frater was a retired longshoreman with I.L.A. Local 851. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years, president of #1 Ushers, treasurer of the church, chairman of trustees, president of the brotherhood, general director of ushers, active member of State Area Ushers.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Jean Frater of Galveston; three daughters, Patricia Bell of Houston, Tamarra Caldweil and Tammi Griggs, both of Galveston; three sons, Robert Groves of Houston, Ronnie Frater of Kingsville and Oliver Vernon of Fort Bragg, N.C.; two brothers, Ralph Frater and John Frater, both of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Rosie Love of Tyler; 15 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; devoted mother-inlaw, Verdis Jefferson of Wharton; devoted father-in-law, Johnny Lee Jackson of Wharton; devoted brothers-in-law, Sol Lee Williams of Wharton and Henry Jefferson of La Marque; devoted sister-in-law, Clara Lee Williams of Wharton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Robert Groves, Leo Bell, Ronnie Frater, Henry Jefferson, Calvin Singleton Jr., Gordan Ward, Johnny Burns and William Lartigue. Honorary Pallbearers are ushers, deacons and trustees of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Area Ushers and Local No. 851.

Memorials may be sent to Fields Funeral Home, 2702 Ave. L, Galveston 77550.
