GALVESTON - Sylvia Hornsby, age 71, died Wednesday, August 25, 1999, at home in Galveston, Texas, of natural causes.
Born Sylvia Menning on January 4, 1928, in Newkirk, Iowa, she moved to Galveston in 1969. She is a retired registered nurse serving 3/2 years in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict with the rank of 1st Lt. and worked at the Shriners Burns Hospital 12 years. She was a member of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Dena Menning and brother Harold Menning and sister Esther Boone.
Survivors include daughters Paula and husband Steaven Alexander of Jewett, Cindy of Houston, and Laurie and husband Jim Kjellander of Spring; grandsons: William and
Fletcher Alexander and Jamie and Douglas Kjellander; brothers: Marion Menning, Virgil Menning and Norman Menning; sisters: Evelyn Brink, Eunice Raak and Arlene Brown all of Iowa.
Visitation was held Friday, August 27,1999, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Joseph Levy Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, August 28,1999, at 10:00 a.m. in the Joseph Levy Memorial Chapel, with the Reverend Carroll Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be Steaven Alexander, Jim Kjellander, Stan Menning, Norman Menning, Marion Menning and Virgil
Menning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Shriners Hospital in Galveston or the Heart or Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.
