Joan was born on November 2, 1932, at St. Marys Infirmary in Galveston, the only child and daughter of Albert & Vivian Donati.
She attended Ursuline Academy, graduating in 1949. She married John C. Midkiff on April 27, 1951. She retired in 1997 after a 32 year career with Shriners Burns Institute. Retirement afforded Joan the ability to travel, which she loved. She was able to cruise & visit many places with cherished friends, Helen Aymes, Mary (Kay) Everling & Nancy VanSkyke.
Although raised in St. Patricks Catholic Church parish, she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. She was active in the Home & School Association at both Ursuline Academy and Our Lady of Guadalupe School while her children were in attendance. She was a member of the Ursuline Alumni Association and participant of the Julia Circle group.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband, parents and son, Gregory Midkiff Sr.
She is survived by daughter, Denese Aymes and husband, Bobby; son, Douglas Midkiff; former daughters in law with whom she remained close, Debbie Massey and Susie Midkiff; 3 grandchildren, Gregory Midkiff Jr., Melody Mascardo and husband, Ryan, Megan Birkenfeld and husband, Brock; 7 great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Nash, Jones & Benjamin Birkenfeld and Riley, Emery & Maxwell Mascardo.
The family will receive visitors at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Hwy 6, Hitchcock on Monday, November 13 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14 at Hayes Funeral Home, with David Alston officiating.
Entombment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you make a donation to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).
