GALVESTON — Mary Frances Shupe went to be with the Lord in Heaven on Saturday, December 3, 2005, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Memorial services for family and friends will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at the chapel of Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Rabbi Jimmy Kessler officiating. The family will receive guests beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Shupe was born on May 8, 1920, in Pleasanton, Kansas, the daughter of J. F. and Mary Elizabeth Trigg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milton (Mose) L. Shupe and her brother Charles L. Trigg.

Mrs. Shupe was always interested in becoming a teacher so it was only natural that following graduation from Baker University at Baldwin, Kansas, she taught in Burns, Kansas, then Herington, Kansas and after moving to Galveston in 1952, she taught and served as head of the English Department at Steven F. Austin Middle School for twenty-nine years.

Mrs. Shupe belonged to the Galveston Education Association, Texas State Teacher's Association, National Education Association, Alpha Delta Sigma (National Honorary Scholastic Fraternity), Phi Mu (National Social Sorority), Delta Kappa Gamma (International Teacher's Honorary Sorority) and P.E.O. (International Philanthropic Society). She was a member of Central United Methodist Church since 1952.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her loving care providers – Betty Smith, Carla Czervenny, Rose Daniels, Ella Jean Haywood and others that have touched her life. We love all of you and couldn't have done it without you.

Survivors include her son Charles and wife Cindie of Escondido, California; and her daughter, Leslie Shupe and boyfriend Donald Borsellino of Galveston; her sister Ellen Magee of Prairie Village, Kansas; niece Maura Schroeder and husband Loren and their three children of Lynn Haven, Florida and nephew Kevin Magee of Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She will be sadly missed by her best friend, Frances D'Albergo of Galveston.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Central United Methodist Church at 3308 Avenue O 1/2 , Galveston, TX 77550, or to Hospice Care Team, Inc., 1708 Amburn Road, Suite C, Texas City, TX 77591.

Many thanks to the U.T.M.B. Geriatric Clinic and House Calls Program and to Hospice Care Team, Inc. We also want to recognize with appreciation the outstanding care from Dr. Akhil Bidani, Dr. Cynthia Osborne, Nurse Manager Donna Graves, and the entire M.I.C.U. staff at U.T.M.B. in March and April 1999.
