George Kenneth Schlagenhauf Jr., M.D. born on December 9, 1932 in Osceola, Wisconsin lost his battle with cancer on July 24, 2013.

George was born and raised in northwestern Wisconsin where he graduated from River Falls High School in 1951. He received his BS and MS degrees from North Texas State University in 1955 and 1957, respectively. Upon the completion of his Master's Degree George applied to medical school on a bet with one of his peers who had recently been accepted to medical school. Upon his acceptance to UTMB he was forced to decide if he wanted become a professional golfer or a doctor. He graduated from UTMB in 1961. After a pediatric internship, he spent a year in graduate school before starting his psychiatric residency. He completed his psychiatric training in 1966, became a board certified psychiatrist, and was selected for a career teacher award from the NIMH.

He stayed in Galveston as an instructor and conducted research for two years before going into private practice in San Antonio where he had a thriving practice for over twenty years. During that time George served on the Board of Directors of the Bexar County Medical Society and was active in the Texas Medical Association Committee on physician health and rehabilitation.

George, his wife Sandra, and their three children lived in San Antonio for 23 years before returning to the Texas Gulf Coast. While in San Antonio they were active in St. Thomas Episcopal Church and Canyon Creek Country Club. George and Sandra have many friends throughout the world with which they enjoyed playing bridge, square dancing and golf. They played golf on courses throughout the U.S. as well as in the Caribbean, but the people and courses in Scotland were their favorites.
Upon his return to the Houston-Galveston Area George was the Medical Director at the Bayshore Community Service Center in Baytown for 8 years. He then worked at the Gulf Coast Center in Angleton for 12 years until his retirement in 2012.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Cagnola Schlagenhauf and three children, Vincent and his wife Rexanne of Kyle, TX; Gregory of Hitchcock, TX; and Katharine of League City, TX. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tasha, Vincent II and wife Tracey, Jeremie, Shane and Kaylin; and one great-granddaughter, Izabella. His sister, Ruth and husband E.F. Crandall of Battle Lake, MN and their children Karen, Jean, and Ted ; Sister-in-Law, Leda Lee and her three children, Randy, Michael and Crystal.

The viewing and respects may be made at J. Levy and Termini, Galveston Friday July 26, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services are to be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Galveston Saturday July 27, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.

Pall Bearers are Vincent Collier II, Shane DeForest, Jeremie Collier, Michael Lee, Randy Lee, Dugan Haney, and David Findlay

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Grace Episcopal Church Altar Guild in Galveston, TX.
