Manuel A. Perez, 57, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2007, at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, Galveston, with Fr. John LaBauve, S.V.D., Pastor, as Celebrant.

Entombment will follow services Saturday at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas. A Rosary Service was held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2007, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston, with Fr. Gerald Lewis, S.V.D., presiding. Mr. Perez’s family received friends for visitation at the funeral home Friday evening after 5:00 p.m.

Mr. Perez was born in Brownsville, Texas October 21, 1949. He was a Registered Pharmacy Technician who worked in the “In-Patient Clinic” of The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, for some thirty years until such time that he retired from UTMB.

He was a loving son and brother, uncle and friend to many. He will always be remembered for his kind heart and generous ways and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, always.

Mr. Perez is preceded in death by his father, Manuel S. Perez.

He leaves behind many fond memories with his loving family, mother, Isabel T. Perez of La Marque, Texas and also his only sister, Mary C. Perez of La Marque, Texas. Sharing in his loss, too, is his nephew and godchild, James Edward Garcia of Galveston, Texas and his great-nephew, James Edward Garcia, II, also of Galveston, Texas. Mr. Perez is survived, also, by his aunt, Maria Del Carmen Pina of Pearsall, Texas and her two sons, Mando Pina of Pearsall, Texas and Richard Pina of McAllen, Texas, his uncles, Elias M. Carr and wife, Maria Louisa of Brownsville, Texas and their family, Jesse Carr, Jose Luis Carr and wife, Marianna, Rudy Carr, Martin Carr, Ezequiel Carr, Manuel Carr and Maria Lourdes Carr and husband, Jeff, Ezequiel M. Carr and wife, Celia of Blain, Washington, Lazaro Torres and wife, Mary and their children of Brownsville, Texas, Luis Torres and wife, Ruth and their family of Brownsville, Texas and Miguel H. Torres and son, also of Brownsville, Texas numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a host of other loving family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Entrusted to quality care, these services are being provided under the direction of Broadway Funeral Home, Galveston.
