Services for R. L. Ormon, 89, of Marietta, GA, and formerly of Lorenzo were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, 1998, in the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Golden, pastor of the Candian First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial followed in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.

Mr. Ormon died at 8 a.m. (EST) Saturday, March 21, 1998, in the Brian Center Nursing Home in Power Springs, GA, following an illness.

He was born April 25, 1908 in Floyd County, TX. He married Pauline Long on March 14, 1930, in Canyon, TX. He moved to Lorenzo in 1942 and had lived most of his married life on the Texas South Plains, He moved to Georgia in March of 1991 from Lorenzo.

R. L. Ormon was first teacher and coach at Sand Hill in Floyd Co. He taught at McAdoo for two years (1931-33). He moved to Lorenzo in 1933 where he was an Elementary Principal. He moved to Crosbyton in 1934 where he also served as Elementary Principal for seven years. He then moved to Magdalena, NM, in 1941, but ill health forced him to quit teaching for a while.

He then returned to Lorenzo and farmed from Dec. 1942 to Jan. 1, 1967. In 1962 he took some courses at Texas Tech and in 1962 returned to teaching as a Junior High Principal in Lorenzo until 1967 when he became Assistant High School Principal until his retirement in May 1973. He taught 24, years, 12-1/2 years which was in the Lorenzo School system.

He also served as a Probation Officer for Crosbyton County from June 1, 1973 to 1983.

While in Crosbyton he was a Charter member of the Lions club, member and Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge #1020.

While in Lorenzo he served as Charter President of the Lorenzo Lions Club, member of the City Commission, and President of Lorenzo School Board. For several years he served as Democratic Precinct #9 Chairman. He was a charter member of the Lorenzo Country Club, and a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. His Masonic History includes: E.A. Degree on March 12, 1938; F.C. Degree on June 15, 1938; and Masters Degree on Nov. 12, 1938. He was an affiliated with the Lorenzo Lodge #1144 since June 3, 1944, having received his 25 year pin on Jan. 18, 1965 and received his 50 year pin on Nov. 13, 19988.

He was a member of the Texas Correction Association, a Charter member of Texas Probation Officers Association and a member of the Drug and Alcoholic Abuse Preventive Association.
R. L. and Pauline Ormon were honored for outstanding contributions to the communities of Crosby County on Aug. 15, 1987, at the West Texas Pioneers and Old Settlers Reunion.

A son preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Ormon of Marietta, GA; a daughter and her husband, Dixie and Steve Mills of Woodstock, GA; a sister, Neva Calahan of Lockney; 2 grandsons, Dan Mills and Sam Mills of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were James O'Rear, Larry Work, Robert Work, Donald Aycock, Bobby Hurst, Jack Bowman, Herschel Bird, and John D. Sales.

Honorary pallbeaers were Masonic members from the Lorenzo and Crosbyton Masonic Lodges.
