Tampa - Gwendolyn Gale (Gwen) Tyer,, died Feb. 12, 2010 at Memorial Hospital Tampa after a short illness. Born in Philadelphia in 1950, she moved to Ocala at the age of two with her parents, Mary Jane and Jim Gale. Gwen graduated from Ocala High School, attended Stetson University, Central Florida Community College, and Florida State University. She was a St. Petersburg debutante in 1969. Having worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Atlanta, Gwen returned to her beloved Florida in 1985, where she worked for Phoenix Mutual Insurance Co. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was a blithe spirit who had a flair for decorating, loved gardening, cooking, and her husband of 18 years, Garl. She and her poodle Max were frequent visitors at a retirement home near her Davis Islands home. In addition to her husband, Garl, Gwen is survived by her two sisters, Jennifer Weidemann (Don), Hendersonville, NC, and Leslie Murakami (Wayne), Half Moon Bay, CA., two nephews, three nieces and an aunt. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27th at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa, FL. 33609 (813) 876-2421. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 509 E. Twiggs St., Tampa, FL. 33602.
