Jack Tyer
June 10, 1916 - June 21, 2014

Jack Tyer, of Ralls died Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Memorial services will be July 21, 2014 in the Ralls Cemetery Chapel at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Directors of Ralls.

Jack Tyer was born June 10, 1916; the youngest of seven siblings born to Myrtle and Virgil Tyer of Bogata, TX.

Mr. Tyer was a WWII veteran with the rank of Master Sergeant in the 409th Bomb Group of the IX Air Force flying the Douglas A20 Havoc light bomber in the Europe-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater. He participated in eleven campaigns as Airplane Maintenance Technician. He was awarded the following decorations and citations. EAME (Europe-Africa-Middle Eastern) Campaign Medal and 11 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and a Distinguished Unit Badge.

Mr. Tyer graduated from Bogota High School, Paris Junior College and received his B. S. degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College.

While at Sam Houston State Teachers College he met his wife Freddie Nelson Tyer. They were married September 13, 1946 in Ft Worth, TX. Freddie Nelson Tyer died December 1970.

Jack taught courses in agriculture, and aircraft maintenance. He lived in many Texas cities including Bogata, Whichita Falls, Seguin, Midland, and Houston. For over 30 years, he lived in Ralls TX.

When he moved to Ralls TX to be near some of his family members, he met Ona Mae Martin, who became his second wife. Jack and Ona Mae were married in Lubbock TX in April, 1985 and were married 29 years.

Jack Tyer was a member of the Ralls First Baptist Church, Texas State Teachers Association, Air Force Association, American Legion and former member of the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife Freddie Nelson Tyer, his parents, Virgil and Myrtle D. Tyer, his brother, Charlie E. Tyer, 5 sisters, Mary King, Lois Moses, Gladys Tyer, Ruth Rodgers, and Eva Green, Ona Mae’s son and grandson, Rick Martin and Chance Ashley.

He is survived by his wife Ona Mae, her daughter Donna and husband Larry Ashley of
Ralls, step-grandsons, Darcy and Shane Martin and six nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to your favorite charity.
