John Tucker, 90, formerly of Lubbock, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in Newark, Ohio. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Monterrey Baptist Church in Lubbock. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Monterrey Baptist Church in Lubbock, with Pastor Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Crosbyton Cemetery under the care of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Mr. Tucker was born on February 1, 1921, on a farm near Crosbyton, Texas, to John Tucker and Daisy Emma (Fowler) Tucker. His family relocated to Muleshoe, Texas where he graduated from high school. He attended Texas Tech in Lubbock before entering the Navy during WWII. Following WWII, he worked for Burrough's Corporation in the Texas Panhandle area. John owned Panhandle Fountain Company and North Plains Stationery serving Texas regions from Lubbock to Amarillo until his retirement.

He was a member of Monterrey Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, previous Member of Trinity Baptist Church and Bell Avenue Baptist Church in Amarillo. He served in various leadership positions in his local church and sang in the choir for many years. He married Oleta (Sursa) Thompson in 1997. Following Oleta's death in 2005, he relocated to Newark, Ohio, to live near his daughter and her family.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Jimmie John Tucker; and his siblings, Arthur Tucker, Thurman Tucker, Glowie Mae Pickard and Verda Hudson.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Tom) Stypula of Newark, Ohio; a son, Mark Tucker of Cerrillos, New Mexico; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Tucker of Austin, Texas; Billie Tucker of Newark, Ohio; grandsons, Adam Stypula of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jonathan Stypula of Chicago, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his extended family including "sisters" Louise Thompson of Olton, Texas, Faye Schilicting of Phoenix, Arizona and brother-in-law Clovis Thompson of Abilene, Texas.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the loving caregivers at Autumn Healthcare (Forry Ave), Home Instead Caregiver (Judy Hysell), Goosepond Retirement Village, Hospice staff located at Licking Memorial Hospital, all located in Newark, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable memorials be sent to Monterrey Baptist Church (Lubbock, Texas) or Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio, located in Newark, Ohio.
