Jim E. Wheeler, MD
January 14, 1928 - July 3, 2014

Jim E. Wheeler, MD, 86 of Borger died July 3, 2014 in Borger. Memorial services will be 11:00 am Wednesday July 9th at Minton Memorial Chapel with Mr. Denny Sneed of Church of Christ at Borger officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. The family will receive friends at the Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors from 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday July 8th.

Jim was born January 14, 1928 in Wichita Falls, TX to Dudley B. Wheeler and Laura Mildred Cunningham Wheeler. He was raised in Fort Worth, TX, where he attended Meadowbrook Elementary and Jr High Schools. He graduated from Pascal High School in 1945. He played in the high school band and was a member of the ROTC. He got his B. S. degree at Texas A.&M. in 1949, where he played in the "Fighting" Texas A&M Band playing clarinet in the A&M Orchestra for College dances. He began as a chemistry major, but change to pre med. After graduation, he entered medical school in Galveston earning his medical degree at University of Texas in 1953. During his Jr year he met Verta Pauline Bates, who was working at he Galveston Hospital as a pediatric nurse. They married November 21, 1952 at First Presbyterian Church in Galveston. He served his internship at Weld County Hospital in Greely, Colorado from 1953 to 1954. He served in the USAF for 2 years as Captain of Medical Corps stationed at McConnell Air force Base. He practiced at Dumas, Tx. from 1956 to 1959 and came Borger, TX in 1959 to start a practice with Knowles, Holmes and Wheeler. He was semi retired for many years and discontinued his practice in 2013. He was county Health officer for Hutchinson County from 1960 to 1997 and City Health officer in Borger to 2004. His interest was hunting ,fishing ,rock hunting, genealogy and playing his clarinet in the Borger Community Orchestra.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents Ira E. and Istalena Cunningham, Ellis A. and Mary Ellen Wheeler. His parents, first wife Polly and 2nd wife Loretta Antwine.

Jim is survived by his Sons Michael D. Wheeler and wife Liz of Jewett, TX and Douglas A. Wheeler and wife Joyce of Pocahontas, AR. Daughter Janet B. Moore of Borger. Grandchildren Jack N. Moore and Jo Ward both of Arlington TX, Benjamin A. and Jesseca (McGlasson) Wheeler of Paris, TX, Samuel D. and Candice Wheeler of Amarillo, TX. Great grandchildren Justice M. Moore of Harker Heights, TX, Jesse Wheeler, Sophie and Ashton Smallwood of Paris, TX, Corbin and Becca Wheeler of Amarillo, TX

Pauline Bates Wheeler, 61, 1510 Gawain, died Saturday, May 30, in her home.

A homemaker and nurse, she was a native of Garden City, Kansas and a Borger resident since 1959.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, active in Girl Scouts for many years, and a member of Paragon Club, United Methodist Women Dorcas Circle. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ihsan Ardhuerumly, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Casketbearers will be Bill Wyatt, Chris Pearson, Ross Josephson, LeRoy Pendleton, Wayne Cox and Max Nuttall.

Honorary casketbearers will be her prayer group and Kum Dubl Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the local mission fund at the First United Methodist Church or to American Cancer Society.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jim Wheeler of the home; two sons, Mike Wheeler of Jewett, Texas, Douglas Wheeler of Garland; one daughter, Janet Wheeler Moore of Arlington; one brother, Joe Bates of Annapolis, Maryland; a sister, Virginia Kolle of Wharton; four grandchildren.
