*Obituary

Services for Robert H. "Cotton" Wheat, 66, of Brownfield will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Welch First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clifton Igo and the Rev. Eric Martinez officiating. Interment will be at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

He died Wednesday, April 20, in Lubbock.

Mr. Wheat was born March 25, 1939 in Lamesa. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1957. In 1995, he moved to Terry County. Since 2002, he was employed with TDCJ-ID, Jim Rudd Unit in Brownfield. He married Nelda Dean Jan. 24, 2003 in Lovington, N.M. He was a member of Welch First Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He loved his motorcycle, working livestock, and was an avid hunter. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and they brought patience into his life.


Survivors include his wife, Nelda Wheat of Brownfield; son, Mark Wheat of McAlester, Okla.; daughter, Stephanie Hopper and husband Rusty of Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepson, Ricky Mims and wife Brenda of Stanton; stepdaughters, Renee Hawkins and husband Mitch of Whitehouse, and Luanne Womack and husband Mike of Ft. Worth; granddaughter, Kate Spivey of Oklahoma City; 11 step-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Shriner Children's Home or to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Lubbock.
