Services for James Hiram Parks, 90, of Lubbock, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Broadway Church of Christ Chapel in Lubbock with Bill Starcher and Joe Burks officiating. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

James passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 in Lubbock. He was born October 21, 1920 in San Saba County, Texas to the late James Lindsey and Eddie Irene (Maxey) Parks. He moved to west Texas to the Gar Lynn community in 1927. He first became a Lion in 1949 while living in Southland, Texas. The new club in Southland was sponsored by Slaton Lions Club but didn't last long. He became a South Plains Lion in 1975 and had perfect attendance since induction. James served as Greeter, Vice President, President (1984-85), Board of Directors and as Deputy District Governor twice while in the Lions Club. He was also in charge of the Diabetic District Program for three years and he and Bill Wolfe had the last motor cycle cross country east of Lubbock.

James met Jerrine Mimms in 1940 at Clark's Drugstore in Lubbock where they served breakfast for 19 cents. "We met there and have been singing a duet ever since and we still carry the same tune" They married November 22, 1941 in Austin, Texas.

James served as a Staff Sgt. in the US Army. After World War II he was in sales where he was a real estate broker for 31 years. He had a furlough from selling for 7 years while he farmed in the Farmer Community in Crosby County.

James and Jerrine were blessed with two children, James D. "Jim" Parks and Amelia Abell Fortenberry. Amelia preceded him in death August 6, 2004, as well as a grandson, James R. Parks, a brother, Thomas C. Parks and a sister, Vynomma Clark.

Survivors include his son, Jim Parks (Keitha Estes) of Idalou, three grandchildren; Angie McDowell (Duke) of Dripping Springs, David Abell (Julie) of Dallas and Sarah Jennings (Kendall) of Bryan. Also surviving are ten great grandchildren, Will and Lindsey McDowell, Grace Abell, Ruth, Judah, Jesse, Maya, Aaron, Zeke and Rose Mary Jennings.

Serving as casket bearers will be Toddy Parks, Dirk Parks, Dane Parks, Taylor Parks, Windall Taylor, Alvin Moudy and Blake Mimms. Honorary bearers will be Ted Porter, Kelly Mimms, Clay Mimms, Tracy Mimms, Dale Moorman and Brad Thornton.
