Charles Wendel Mason passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 80 years on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Monterey Baptist Church. Charles Wendel was born on June 19, 1933, to Glen and Jackie Brown Mason in Brownfield, Texas. On Dec. 28, 1953, Wendel married the love of his life, Vada Beth Durham, at the First Baptist Church in Meadow, Texas. He graduated from Meadow High School in 1950 and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Wendel began farming at a young age with his father in Terry County and later farmed in Hockley and Cochran Counties for a combined 44 years. He enjoyed traveling with Vada Beth and attending his grandchildren's activities. Wendel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morton, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. He was a member of Monterey Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Vada Beth Mason; children, Ralph Mason and wife Donna, Kathy Six and husband Gary, Judy Gholson and husband Kevin, and Brady Mason and wife Lorissa; grandchildren, Matt Mason and wife Jenn, Lindsey Johns and husband Brock, Mitch Mason and wife Heather, Dustin Six and wife Mackenzie, Megan Hill and husband Josh, Amber Cowan and husband Josh, Christi Flick and husband Jacob, Nikki Gholson, and Silas Mason; great-grandchildren, Sailey Six, Taydam Hill, Tessa Perez, Rylan and Caycen Johns, Levi and Wyatt Mason, Abbie Flick, Collier Mason, Tensly Mason, and Justin Flick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Jackie Mason; siblings, Weldon Mason, and Betty Fulford.
