James William Aynes married Miss Gertrude Smith on 21 February 1884 in Jacksboro, Texas. She preceded him in death.

James William Aynes married Katherine Wolffarth at Jacksboro, Texas on 22 March 1888.

J.W. Aynes built the stone building on the northwest corner of the Jacksboro square and conducted a dry goods store there for many years. J.W. and Katherine came to Crosbyton with their children from Jacksboro in 1915. He owned and operated a dry goods store in Crosbyton and his son, David, owned a furniture store.

Mr. Aynes died in 1945 and Mrs. Aynes in 1953. Their children were: Hattie Lou Beal, Annelle Grogan, Marie Dickey, Edna Smith, and David Aynes. David married Florence Shelton and they have three children. The Aynes family were members of the Presbyterian church.
