*Obituary
Mae Leona Yoachum, 90, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with Bob Thomas, chaplain of Odyssey Healthcare, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Yoachum was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Lone Elm, Kan., to Mamie and John Butler. She lived in and around the Borger and Fritch area for better than 50 years. Mae owned and operated several grocery stores, including the By-Pass Grocery and Hull's Grocery. Mae never met a stranger and she always had a story to tell. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.

Mae had a love for nature and enjoyed the great outdoors. She loved to travel and enjoyed sight-seeing and people watching. In the 1960s she raised, bred and sold canaries. Crocheting and quilting were among her many talents. She was also involved in the Royal Neighbors of America for about 45 years and she held various positions within the organization.

On May 21, 1971, she married Harvey Yoachum of Borger. They relocated to Fritch until 1999.

Mae will be remembered for her colorful stories, bright smile and unforgettable laugh, but mostly for her love of people.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Barkley of Borger and Wanda Tinnel of Fort Sumner, N.M.; nine granddaughters, Debbie DeLara of Borger, Lorraine Mason of Malvern, Ark., Donna Langner of Hobbs, N.M., Lee Ann Strickland and husband, Mike, of Fritch, Janet Wooten and husband, Doug, Karen Weir and husband, Jim, and Patty Payne, all of Amarillo, Diana Snow and husband, Jim, of San Diego and Brenda Mullins of Panhandle; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
