Dennis " Bear " Ames

Dennis K. Ames, known by many as "Bear", 55, went to his heavenly home Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Cremation was entrusted to Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Memorial services will be at 6:30 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Earle Burkholder offficating. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Dennis was born June 5, 1954, in Borger to William and Barbara Ames. He was a material handler supervisor for J. m. Huber for 23 years and most recently worked for the city of Borger Transfer Station. He married Toni Fields on June 1, 1974, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Borger. For 35 years, they enjoyed going to the mountains, making each other laugh and spending time with family and friends. He was the proud father of Melissa, father-in-law to Shawn, and the proud Papa of Chloe Stroud. He enjoyed playing the guitar, watching racing and monday night wrestling. He was a good Christian man that would give you the shirt off his back. His soft- spoken manner and infectious laugh will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill; a sister, Jacqueline Dianne: and his grandparents on both sides.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Toni Ames of Borger; his daughter, Melissa Stroud and her husband Shawn of Borger; a granddaughter, Chloe Stroud of Borger; his mother, Barbara Ames of Borger, his sister, Mary C. Jelf and her husband Robert of Utah; his brother, Mike Ames and his wife Judy of Texas, his sister, Barbara Anne Chavez of Borger; his brother Patrick Ames and his wife, Marsha of Borger; his sister, Polly Lambert and her husband Charlie of Borger; his mother-in-law, Peggy Fields of Panhandle; his sister-in-law, Beverly Fields of Borger; brothers-in-law Mike and Stanley Fields; many nieces and nephews; and several friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to Wesley United Methodist Church.

The family will be staying at 103 Skycrest in Borger.
